Electronic Quality Measures Video Podcast

In this interview, Dr. Anna Schorer and Dr. Richard Moldwin from the CancerLinQ Oncology Informatics Task Force discuss their article "Chasm Between Cancer Quality Measures and Electronic Health Record Data Quality" published in JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics January 5, 2022. Read online at https://doi.org/10.1200/CCI.21.00128. The researchers used data derived from 8 EHR systems as captured in the CancerLinQ health technology platform to examine oncology clinical quality measures that were part of the CMS MIPS program. They found significant limitations for automated EHR data extraction because of sparse data field availability and low fill rates, with negative implications for public health reporting, research, and other secondary uses of EHR data. Solving this problem will require widespread adoption of common data standards, such as mCODE, and improvements in the routine capture and exchange of structured data.
